The Story of a GoFarm Newbie

Hi! My name is Maggie and it’s my first year subscribing to GoFarm’s Local Food Share! I’ve always loved good food, supporting my local farmers and my community, so joining GoFarm was an easy decision. I’m originally from the East Coast and spent my first 3 years out of college in Brooklyn where I was a regular at the amazing farmer’s markets held every Saturday. I moved to Breckenridge in 2014 and became a subscriber to the Summit CSA. It was wonderful, but as you can imagine, there were a lot of greenhouses involved!

When I moved to Golden in 2016 I knew I needed to find a source of delicious, local produce. I love bringing my share home and seeing what types of items I get that aren’t in my usual repertoire. How will I use them? Will I toss it raw into a salad or saute it with olive oil and garlic? How long can I store it for and should I keep it in the fridge or the counter? Thanks to GoFarm’s weekly email, I get lots of tips on how to store my bounty.

One other point that I appreciate about GoFarm (and that I haven’t seen elsewhere), is their commitment to educating farmers and supporting the ones coming up the ranks. Getting access to land, seeds, and equipment are just some of the hurdles that farmers must overcome. So GoFarm’s dedication to farmer mentorship through their upcoming incubator program is an important factor when I think about where to buy my food.

We’re so lucky to have such a dedicated partner to farmers right here in our back yard. I’m looking forward to picking up my next share already!
