Winter Coat Drive with Project Protect

Written By Hunter Knapp

Another harvest season is drawing to a close. Frost clings to pumpkins hoping for a few more days of sun. Soon, Coloradans across the state will be swapping bike shorts and life jackets for skis and snowshoes. Meanwhile, agricultural workers will remain hard at work tending to livestock, sorting crops, and preparing fields for next year. Despite working 60 to 70 hours per week during the peak harvest season, many individuals do not earn enough to provide for their families and prepare for Colorado’s harsh winters. These essential workers need your support!

GoFarm will be partnering with Project Protect Food Systems Workers to meet the need for warm winter coats felt by agricultural workers and their families. Donated items will be delivered directly to workers by Project Protect Promotores—culturally and linguistically-skilled community health navigators who have connected with more than 15,000 agricultural workers over the past two years. They have been receiving increasingly urgent requests from workers for coats and other clothing to help cope with freezing conditions. As community members themselves, Project Protect Promotores understand the need also extends to children in agricultural worker families. To begin meeting this need, Project Protect is trying to collect a total of 1,000 adult-sized coats and 500 child-sized coats to distribute before the end of 2022.

Please donate to the Project Protect Food Systems Workers Coat Drive! New and gently used coats will be accepted at your Local Food Share Pickup (October 12th - 21st) or Mobile Market (October 13th - 28th). Monetary contributions can be donated here. Colorado’s agricultural workers thank you for the support!
